A friend of mine joined Orkut and must’ve overlooked a gender box somewhere and got registered as the wrong sex.. He got a nice reply back from them:

Orkut has an efficient consumer of lots of my time lately, it’s great fun. If you’re not a member, find someone who is and have them invite you!
Actually, I saw something on The Register yesterday warning people not to use social networks like Friendster and Orkut. Something about giving up any and all privacy. I’m sure the article is still there.
It’s just a standard marketing thing.. letting people become research subjects unknowingly.. but isn’t that what most of the internet is? Tracking browsers and OS stats of customers, finding the most looked at page and most clicked link?
As long as the service has something to offer, it’s still annoying, but I don’t mind as much… *shrug*
