Jägermusic

I just got back from a bar where some local Jägerbands were playing. Northwest Royale is local from Eugene and are opening for the Jägermeister Music Tour in Portland on October 16th (Dope, Motograter, etc) and December 12th (Slayer, Killswitch Engage, etc). Northwest Royale headlined this show, and the cover was only $2… well worth the price of admission and the price of the drinks. 🙂

Opening and support bands tonight included Bacchus from Olympia, WA, YOB, another local Eugene band, and Bluntpoint from somewhere (not sure where). Bacchus put on a good show and their sound was pretty good (and LOUD), but nothing special. Bluntpoint (couldn’t find their website within a few minutes) really got me going, especially when they played “Killing in the Name Of..” by Rage Against the Machine! YOB seemed to be some sort of hippie doom-metal group influenced by bands such as Black Sabbath, they seemed to lack the energy that I look for in a band these days, but they did their thing well. Northwest Royale talked a bit too much, but put on a great set. I can’t really think of a specific band to relate these guys to, but they have great energy and their sense of humor isn’t too over the top (if you ever see them, make sure they do the pornographic boy-band bit).

All in all, it was a great show, and I look forward to seeing most of these bands again. Not a fan of spending $4.50 for a shot of Jäg though. Ah well.

PS: Twins dropped out of the playoffs again this year.. Always a bridesmaid, never a bride I guess (lately it seems). Good luck next year guys!
