Netflix cheating… Rules…

The Washington Post recently had an article about Netflix Cheating. Interesting read.
Personally, I gave Erin her own queue on my 3-out account. I have 2 of my own (one for movies, and one for TV shows). She often likes the bad sci-fi, and more often the bad anime, so I set up a queue for her.
I don’t think we’ve run into any problems with “Netflix cheating” yet, we usually have a steady enough stream of movies that we can get together to watch something when our tastes overlap.
Anyhow, here are the rules outlined on page 3 of the Washington Post article:
- The Zip code rule: Movies can be watched if one of the parties is out of town, especially if said travel lasts more than three days or falls on a weekend.
- The “Sixth Sense” rule: Any movie billed as having a surprise ending should not be watched sans partner. Especially if one can’t keep one’s mouth shut.
- The “Veronica Mars” rule: Any TV show in which one’s understanding of the plot depends on viewing every episode should not be watched without one’s partner. If one does watch solo, one must not return the DVD until both parties have completed it.
- The Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell rule: Indiscretions are tolerated, so long as the wronged party never learns of them. David Klimas and Kurt Rieschick have developed such a policy with certain shows. “If he ever watches ‘Lost’ without me,” says Klimas, “he better have the decency to lie about it. The truth would be too devastating.”

Back at the EVO tourny, I was offered an exciting deal on a trick ski. I finally got the holes patched and the rear toe strap mounted LFF yesterday.
What with my truck and bike being out of commission, I haven’t skied since the 4th. Hopefully this weekend I’ll get a chance…

Well I got my first good paycheck of the summer, followed almost immediately by my truck ceasing to work. Started with a dead battery, had AAA give me a jump start, they did some kind of electrical test and they determined the alternator was on its last leg.
So… had to replace alternator, serpentine belt, and tensioner assembly. In order to change these parts, I had to buy tools… torque wrench, 1/2 to 3/8 adaptor, jumper cables (battery died again), set of torx bits (set was 2.50 more than just the T-50 I needed)
Then 2 days into all this, my bike decides to stop moving. It’s been having slight problems for a while, the tire was rubbing on the frame, but not all the time. I came to realize it was off-axis a little bit, imagine:

Turns out the axel snapped, and the spindle was bent inside it. Add to that the wheel was fairly out of ‘true’ and a broken spoke. Add to that the bike shop was backed up and couldn’t do anything for 2 days. Add to that my truck wasn’t working.

Hair Before/After!

Well Erin got me a haircut for her birthday. Here’s the results:
Immediately before, immediately after, months before, days after.
My birthday was last Tuesday. I made out with Guitar Hero II bundle, some dvd’s, a Deal or No Deal game, some cashmoney, and a couple cards from family members. Erin took me out for dinner, and a showing of the Transformers movie.
I thought the Transformers movie was great. I give it 8.3 stars, with a note that I don’t think it could have done much better. When you take such a classic from my childhood and change it so much, it’s hard to live up to any expectations. That said, they did a pretty good job with it.
Erin’s b-day was Thursday, and after dinner, we saw Live Free or Die Hard. I give that one 8 stars, based simply on the fact that it was pretty good, entertaining, and a tad little less impressive than Transformers movie we saw 2 days prior. Definitely worth watching though!

Who turns quarter century today? Tune in later in the day for birthday beer. Not much is planned. Probably post-work beer, dinner, and a movie.
