competed in a city league ski racing league, and our team won the whole season

had the worst Christmas ever #christmasfail08

been [positively] excited about a presidential inauguration

played a UO officially sanctioned flip cup tournament with the club sports olympics, and we WON

broke a slalom ski

went from 5 down to 2 e-mail accounts, and one of those may be going a way soon

met a girl, her name is Angela, many of you have even met her by now

graduated from college!!!!!!!!!

successfully survived a road trip with Angela through 9 states

Yellowstone, Ren Faire, Badlands, Wall Drug, SLC, etc…

partaken in a few dancing lessons (ssssh! don’t tell anyone!)

somehow convinced Angela to buy a Mac

dealt with 2 flat tires in 2 different states I don’t live in, and neither one on my personal vehicle

turned 27

competed in 9 waterski tournaments in 6 different states, and waterskied in a 7th state

including Collegiate National All-Stars for slalom+trick, and AWSA Western Regionals for 3-event (and qualified for but didn’t go to AWSA Nationals)!

upgraded my wordpress blog, twice, without posting anything

volunteered with a church group on a construction project

bought a Playstation 2 from a thrift store for $12.50 and repaired it myself

sold my old DSLR and bought a spiffy new one, and taken thousands of photos with it

given up on my football team, due to some unFavreable circumstances

finally started getting my online portfolio and résumé up-to-date

…and some other stuff too, I assure you. But now that you’re updated on my life, maybe now I can get this site fully back on track again?

Maybe if I don’t have to write a full paragraph and linkify everything, make thumbnail images, etc, it’ll get me posting to something more often. I made a little custom bit for “Tweets” (posts to Twitter).

Mainly writing this post to see how they integrate with other blog postings.

EDIT (8/2/08): So that didn’t last long. I was tweeting way more than I ever blogged, and a page full of tweets just doesn’t look that good. So I’ve dis-integrated the tweets from the blog, for now you’ll see ~5 at a time in my sidebar.

The other day I put up a photo gallery and several albums of photos. I’m still not sure how I want to incorporate it into the site, it could very well be it’s own section, and I could create an album of certain things for my portfolio. We’ll see, I’d be happy to hear your suggestions.

In other news, I think I’ve been making some progress getting the UO Waterski Club going. I’ve got a table reserved at the club sports open house, and am looking into a day to do an organizational meeting. Also it looks like in the next few weeks I’ll try to enter some tournaments.

As far as my skiing goes, I’m still struggling at 34mph. 32mph is cake though. I’d just really like to get myself up to 36mph so I can start cutting the rope down more. If you’re going to be entering competitions, it’s probably a good idea to be at a competitive level.

Last Thursday, after class, I finally received my new camera (Minolta DiMAGE G400). 4 Megapixel, 3x optical zoom, tiny sonofabitch. Was playing with it a little in my truck as I was on my way to the Math department’s picnic, played with it more before the after-picnic-party (and no I don’t have any shots from this).

Friday, my roommate invited me to go to a BBQ with a bunch of his friends in Corvallis. I went and had a great time. There seemed to be a shortage of BEEF burgers, but the ribs followed shortly after. Food was damn good, company was great. Passed the soccer ball around outside for a while. Then after the sun set, while most of us were watching BASEketball, Milo (edit: thx Trev0r) began twirling his firestick. This was quite amazing, and I do have some shots of this… (click to enlarge)

I had no idea how this exposure shot mode got turned on, but it kicks ass once you’re aware of it! I now know how to turn it on and off, but am still figuring out how to control it more. It’ll probably take me all summer before I’ve totally got the camera 100% figured out, but it only took me the one night to get the basics.

I’m looking into the possibility of starting a photoblog of some sort. I’m not sure if I want to host it, or if I want to use an established site service. It may take a few weeks for me to get something going, but you heard it here first I guess.

Yay, new toy!!

I got the chance to attend a Mac OS X Tiger/Tiger Server seminar today. Mostly it was an advertisement for the new features in the latest flavor of OS X, but there were a few subtle things I learned about. Mostly what was new to me were the features in Mac OS X Server. I could geek out for a bit here, but being that I probably won’t be running such a server anytime soon, I won’t.

Also today finally marked the conclusion of the journy that was building the math department a new website. The project had been just about complete for a while now, but we had to wait for a few things to happen before moving it over to the permanant server. Then when loaded on the new server, naturally, nothing worked. So after manually editing EVERY php file, twice, I was down to only 2 minor headaches, which could be lived without for a day or so. One, the photo album would load the expanded pictures, this was a simple fix to add _GET[''] to the variable declaration. Two, the random image rotator was seemingly completely broken. Somehow the line endings transformed themselves to DOS format, and a mystery character decided to rear its ugly head. Thanks to help from Hans, this got taken care of today as well.

Yay! Thanks Jon!

Lastly, I updated my pr0tfolio with a short description of my latest web project, and now I’ll have some free time to put up some of my photography and other art works I’ve been working on. w00tles!

They date back to March 2003. Previous to that I was using LiveJournal for a while, and those entries are long deleted. I think I added 75 entries on to my total here to 136. This averages out to about one entry every 5-6 days, which isn’t terrible, but is a bit slower than I’d like things to be here.

Tomorrow [ edit (11:07pm): ok, so not today, but soon. ] I’ll have to go through and find the old images and the video linked to from these old entries and get them uploaded. After I get it all cleaned up, I’ll be able to trash the old backups I have and start keeping regular backups here.

Currently all my sections have some form of content on them… it’s been years since this has been the case. Some of the content is just placeholders for the sake of not having empty pages. The problem is that I have so many different kinds of content, I need a structured layout so I can include just about any kind of content, and it should flow nicely.

I put up my working résumé. I currently have a job I’m very happy with, but it’s a bad idea to walk around with one’s eyes shut. Also, I stylized my album list (which is generating using PHP), and posted my list of DVD’s. Placeholder content for RecSports are some quicktime videos, and ditto Computers with some Googled images of my computers.

Site roadmap? 1. Main Layout; 2. Starter Content; 3. Polish Laout and Content; 4. ???; 5. Painful realization that I’m starting to piece together a make-shift CMS

Content again? It’s been a while, but I threw up a couple pages of content. Made a nifty list of all the albums I’ve got on CD or otherwise for my music section (more will be there eventually), and put my links and portfolio pages back up. Once I get my resumé current again, that will be up as well. Enjoy.

If you’ve visited the site a few times, you may or may not notice some of the minor changes I’ve been periodically making. I’ve been working more behind the scenes on my individual archive template, I showed some of you to try to get some feedback, the rest of you will see it when it’s done. I also have some spiffy photos from my winter break in Arizona that will come with that update. If something just looks completely broken (besides the archive templates.. I know about those) let me know. If you don’t know how to get ahold of me, go away.

Took about a half hour, but I got this main page validating again, XHTML 1.0 Strict. It looks right in gecko and webcore browsers. I’ll find out on Monday what it looks like in MS Exploiter.

I’m kinda sorta looking for a new web host. Eryxma just isn’t quite working for me. Way back in 2002 when I signed up, several sites they host went down for a long period of time (because they were relocating servers or something)… fast forward to 2004 and their ENTIRE network has been down for multiple hours on at least 2 occasions… also in between these occurances my website was hacked into, and they made no apparent effort to track down the intruder or to patch my system. Needless to say, I’m less than pleased with them. Currently looking into Dreamhost, 1-and-1, and seeing if some friends of mine are going in on a rackspace server somewhere. Any suggestions, please gimme a shout!

In other news, my movable type engine also serves my old High School Ski Team’s Site, which I’m trying to get into an acceptable capacity this week. Lots of templating for me to be doing.

I don’t feel like attending the javascript class I’m in tomorrow, there’s something about hand written javascript on an overhead projector that doesn’t tickle my fancy. But in any case I do have work tomorrow, so it’s bed time for me. G’night folks.

Before I forget the reason I was posting here… I’m interested in getting a one of those newfangled USB Thumbdrives to do my web design stuff on. If anyone knows of a way of possibly getting apache or some sort of way of parsing PHP on an external drive such as this, lemme know!
