Blog

I bought a book.

Yea, you read that right, I spent money on a bound stack of paper. Woo-woo…

Anywho, for you non-non-believers out there (those of you who think I can read) The book is called Designing with Web Standards and it is by a man named Jeffery Zeldman.

I guess what I wanted was a nice reference book of XHTML 1.1 and CSS 1&2 tags and attributes. Reason being I’ve got a few HTML books (based on HTML 2 era code), *and* they’re in Minnesota. Well, this isn’t what I was looking for. It appears to be comprised of methods and theories on how to make websites with standards, and the future of the internet, and internet devices in mind.

I got the book, because the book I was looking for didn’t seem to exist. Also, I’d heard many good things about the book I did get, and it seems like it’d be a good hunk of dead tree-matter that every [self proclaimed] web-designer should read. If you have any suggestions on recent reference books for XHTML 1.1 and CSS 1+2 please leave a comment for me, I’d appreciate it.

Back to reading I guess… Have a nice day.

Blah (and other random thoughts)

Found a bar up near the train tracks and almost under the interstate to watch the Vikings game.. and low and behold.. they BEAT the cheese heads IN GREEN BAY.. for the first time in 5-6 years!! Needless to say, I’m VERY pleased! Also, while there, I met 3 other people formerly from Minnesota, and a couple other Vikings fans. Could this end up being a Viking bar this season? We shall try.

On the housing front, I checked out 2 new apartments today, and one was large, affordable (for the most part), not smelley, and but 1.5 miles west of campus (and on a flat bikable route too). New carpet was being laid while I walked around, so at the very least, I’ll be visiting again tomorrow. I may even end up moving in this week, who knows.

Jobs, my application and resumes have been distributed, no word from my future employer yet though.

And Mom, if you’re reading this.. I traded my truck in for a VW van, I’m living in it down by the river, and I got married to a girl named Viper, and I got a tatoo of her name on my forehead. enjoy 🙂

Online for a short time

Well I’m at Dan&Lori’s and they have dial-up internet access. I have been looking for apartments all week, and have applied for work at Berg’s Ski Shop, the Eugene Mac Store, Rack ‘n Roll, and REI. Hopefully I hear from at least one of them soon!

On the housing front, most of the places with a reasonable price are fairly trashy, but I’m a single male college student, so I don’t need a huge fancy house to myself, so it’ll be interesting to see what I end up with. I have an appointment tomorrow morning to check out a shared house, and I’ll be looking at a couple more apartments probably through Monday at least, unless I decide on something this weekend.

Also, I stopped at a bar close to the street I’m staying at, and they shall be playing the Vikings/cheese head game on Sunday, so that should be fun! Go Vikes!!

As soon as I get myself an address, I will be aquiring a more steady access to the internet, and a cell phone so I can get back to my chats and e-mails. Please feel free to leave comments, however, I love hearing from people!!
