Movie Madness

Went to dinner at Erin’s parents again last night. Didn’t feel like going straight home, so we went to watch Pirates 2. Blast, another trilogy. I wish trilogies would go to hell. Anyhow, it wasn’t nearly as bad as any of the bad reviews said it was. Quite entertaining. I hope it’s still in the $1.50 theater when Pirates 3 comes out.

Saw a movie poster for the Transformers movie coming out next summer. I think the tagline is better suited for Michael Moore’s Fahrenheit 9/11, and agree with it in that context.
Their war. Our world.

Anyhow, next year looks to have a few good months worth of good movies. What with TMNT, Spiderman 3, Pirates 3, Transformers, (digging around IMDB a little), Fahrenheit 9/11 ½, Fraggle Rock: The Movie, Futurama, Mortal Kombat: Devastation, Ocean’s Thirteen, The Simpson’s Movie…. Along with movies I’m not entirely sure are worth the price of admission: Die Hard 4, Mrs Doubtfire 2, Rambo 4, Rush Hour 3, Sandlot 3, Three Stooges The Movie… Probably a few I missed here, and thousands of others I likely won’t care about.

The Vicarious MacBook

from David’s Blog:
MacBook mission a success
Today I upgraded to a MacBook (2.0 GHz Core Duo with SuperDrive)…..

For some unknown reason, I’ve wanted a MacBook for the last few weeks. *REALLY* wanted. The probelm is I don’t really need it, and can’t exactly afford it. They’re sweet laptops, perfect ratio of size to power (13″ wide screen, 2GHz Core Duo, Superdrive), and not overly priced. Well, a friend of mine picked one, er two of them up yesterday (the first one kernel paniced out of the box, returned it for another, which didn’t). Spent a good chunk of the afternoon watching him set it them up. The thing plays 1080p HD videos beautifully, something my iMac cannot do (though 720p are more than adequate for me). I figured for some reason that if I watch him set his up, it would settle my urge to buy. Mission failed, I want one even more now.

Jealousy ensues…

Hot and busy

Appologies for the lack of posting lately. And a big fat “F.U.” to comment spammers. Anyhow the spam has finally got me to upgrade to WordPress 2.x (from my measly 1.2x). I’ve been really busy with the move, and with building the room. It’s coming along nicely. See below for some photos! The temperatures for the last several days have been 90-105 and HUMID (read: miserable) so working in the cool basment has it’s benefits.

Also been busy trying to get things off the ground with the waterski club. Recruiting at IntroDUCKtion, and trying to get people to do things they say they’re going to do. Still working on getting a boat, so if you have a nice one you don’t need, you could make a tax-deductable donation to the U of O Waterski Club (wink wink, nudge nudge…)!

With upgrading to anything above WordPress 1.5 comes the need for a new layout. I didn’t feel like coding my own from scratch because it’s a bit of a beastly project and I’ve got a couple other projects I’m kicking around.

Yadda yadda yadda… Hopefully once the dust settles in the basement, I’ll return to blogging a little more regularly.

Click the proceeding link to see the photos from the basement. Starting from “the before”, some various lighting/wiring shots, and through Friday night. Got bunch more done Saturday with John, did a bunch more done last night, and have plans to do the same tonight. I’ll update this post when I post more pics.

[Update: we got the rest of the drywall up and mudded in the main part of the room. Some pieces to go on the other end to even things out, and more coats of mud to go, but we should be ready for paint by the weekend!]
