Summer Vacation v.2 (Wedding)

After sleeping most of the day Friday from being on the bus so damn long, I went out to dinner with my parents and my grandma at Adventures. We got there just in time for happy hour (mmmm 2-fer-1 drinks), then I went to join many of Andy’s friends, several family members, and some of Amanda’s friends who went out to the bar for some drinking and hanging out before the wedding on Saturday. Andy’s got me hooked on Irish Car Bombs, I had a bit to drink that night. I crashed at Jared’s house on the couch, while watching Iron Chef on TV.

Morning came and I got dropped off at my car, then went home to get dressed and get back to town for the ceremony where I was supposed to video the vows. Things went off without a hitch (well, one hitch, but the good kind), and a few people went to the bar before going to the reception, I think I saw maybe 2 people with a drink in hand at the bar, as the wedding party still had to take pictures, and several people were driving.

Everyone arrived at The Giants Ridge Lodge, and got settled for dinner. They also had 3 kegs of pre-paid-for beer. I think I had 12 [free] beers that night, all the while hitting my flask of JD. Did much dancing with people from high school, and some people I didn’t know (don’t believe the rumors!!! 😛 ). After the reception was over, Pingry and I headed to the bar for a few more drinks, and the bar tender said they were closing in about 20 minutes (at 1am), but we indicated that we had money and wanted to chill and have some drinks and chat for a while. Well, we got the bartender to do a couple Irish Car Bombs with us, and soon we were joined by other people leaving the reception, and the manager of the bar. I have no idea how many drinks I had, but it was quite a few. After the bar closed (somewhere about 2am) 4 of us went outside on the deck to chill for a while, and then 3 of us went to cause some mischief, soon lost one, and 2 of us ended up climbing a certain Sarajevo lift tower #6, and then crashed in Jared’s room where we found Jared and Bjorn sleeping. Before sleeping, however, I hit the jacuzzi for a while in an effort to sober up. I ended up sleeping on my clothes on the floor.

Here’s a few photos from the night:

And here is a link to the rest of the wedding photos.

When everyone woke up, Pingry, Bjorn and I headed to VI for some breakfast. I ran into Katie there (my former neighbor and friend for as long as I can remember). After breakfast, I dropped the other 2 off and headed for the cabin.

Summer Vaction v.1 (Transit)

Pardon me for neglecting the blog over the course of my trip so far, it’s just not encouraging logging in and doing these things over a dial-up connection. Anyhow, I thought it would be a good idea to get this stuff written down, and to make things easier to follow, I’ll split it up into a few entries. Here goes the first:

A week before my trip began, I went to the Greyhound station in Eugene and bought my tickets. Ordering at least 7 days in advance gets a substantial discount, and came out WAY less than driving myself. Also by going to the station, I didn’t have to pay the will-call convenience charge (saved another $4 per ticket).

Then on Tuesday, June 28th my trip began, I worked until noon, then my kick-ass insanely awesome roommate drove me around to the bus station, where I was a little later than I should’ve been, but lucky for me, the bus itself was an hour late. So I took the opportunity to run down about 8 blocks to get my friends Andy & Amanda a wedding gift, from Oregon, made in Oregon. I got back to the station just in time for the final boarding call, and was on my way.

On the first leg of my trip (Eugene -> Seattle) I ended up talking to a truck driver, teenage kid, a trendy bitch (sorry, she was), and another guy about my age. Subjects went from politics, music, movies, sex, drugs, back to politics, to giving the truck driver shit for being whipped, and giving the girl shit for getting in trouble with her folks. Over the course of the rest of the trip, I met people involved in all kinds of hairy activities, which I won’t delve into here because I don’t want to 🙂 I won $0.90 in a casino/café in Montana, and ended up chatting with a guy who was on his way to Chicago to be with his fiancee who was finishing up boot camp near there.

My folks and my dog picked me up in Fargo ND, so we picked up some fireworks for the Fourth of July, and then headed for home. I spent about $30 on fireworks, and my dad spent about $11 :-/ I arrived at my parents’ house on Thursday, June 30th about 10pm or so.

omgwtfwaterskiing

So in the past week, I’ve gone waterskiing last Monday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday (yesterday)! This is crazy! But it has costed me my hands:

Yesterday I could barely hold onto the rope. But the good news (sorta) is I now get a week off from waterskiing, and I can let my hands heal a bit. Also I have the opportunity to get a considerably newer ski for quite a reasonable price. There is a question I have yet to ask the owner of it though before I write a check for it.

Besides waterskiing, I’ve been trying to teach myself some guitar riffs and chords the past few days. I just need to keep on messing with it. I’ve picked up almost one riff a day, and been working on all of them to get the timing better and sounding cleaner.

It’s weird to find out people actually read this site. I often (ok maybe not so often), rant about things, or talk about things that happen in my life, but it feels kinda funny to find out who reads the site, especially the blog.

In other unrelated news (I guess I’m going for the the post most unrelated to itself today), I’ve listed my laptop for sale, and have had 2 people interested so far, but only one has made a somewhat serious offer (quite below my asking price). If I don’t get an offer of something reasonably close to what I’m asking, I may just keep it at least for the summer.

All that and my summer vacation/trip starts soon. Will be very nice to see everyone again! Well, that’s it for now.
