Weekend excursion..

So this weekend a bunch of us went to Bend, OR for the Pole, Pedal, Paddle competition. I was the “support” for the group, but I still had plenty of fun (and plenty of beer). The trip started out with Dan and I driving to Bend to meet my brother and some of his other buddies. They all got registered and such and we went to grab some mexican food for dinner and tried to find someplace to sleep for the night. Well, we decided on the Walmart parking lot– 3 of the guys rolled out their sleeping bags under a “windshield repair” canopy, my brother and I slept in a tent, and another guy slept in the trailer.

The next morning we woke up and ate breakfast at a Sherry’s or something and wasted a few hours before the race started. Dan, Mark and I went a local playwave and Dan did a little surfing. Then it was back to the parking lot so those guys could get psyched up for the race. Things went off without a hitch, though the last transition or 2 were a bit rushed.

After the race we grabbed some beers while waiting for the results. They got 4th place in their division! Then it was off to the brew-pub for some more beer, then to probably the fanciest restaurant in town for dinner, and we slept at a motel for the night.

Pete, Dan and I took the kayaks out the next morning on the Matolias River for a short little jaunt while the rest of the guys went out mountain biking. We met up at a grocery store afterwards and ate lunch at Longboard Louie’s (Hawiian/Mexican food) and headed home.

Spam must die, now.

Ok, so wining about spam these days is becoming cliché, but it’s really annoying, and it must stop! There are spammers out there who dedicate their lives to making innocent blogger’s lives a living hell. Luckily there is a fellow who dedicates much of his time making the world better for the rest of us. So not only did I delete each of the 19 comment spams that cropped up in the last 2 days and ban their IP addresses.. I also installed MT-Blacklist which should do a big part in curbing the annoyance.

If you want to advertise, pay for it like everyone else! I don’t spam your drug/pr0n sites, so don’t spam mine! Bastards!

On a lighter note, I’ve got most of my content up, including a jump start on my portfolio. I’ve almost got all the bases covered on the content now, and it will soon be time to deepen the pages so there might be some useful information around here again.

Blah.

Getting there..

Rather than talking about random site news, I guess I can tell you a little about what’s going on in my life lately– I’m taking 12 credits and working 20hrs/wk at The University of Oregon and not doing much else. I finally got in to pay my tuition today, which will bring my checking account balance down to $0.72 (yay broke!). I’m pretty psyched I recently got an A+ on a paper titled “Flash Sucks.” That gives me some hope for the rest of the world..

What else is there to say? Most of my friends at other schools seem to be done with school already, and I have a midterm next week.. that isn’t fun…

Site news: It seems every waking moment I have the chance to, I’ve been constantly playing with getting this layout tweaked closer to perfection (and obviously it’s not quite there yet). Extra special thanks to Nougatmachine for all the suggestions, also thanks to David, Jared and Noah for suggestions and comments. If anyone has any further ideas, I’m fairly open to suggestions.

Also, I’m still looking for a “real” host. I got burned on my last one, and am currently hosting myself. If you can recommend one to me, I need at least 100MB of space, PHP, MySQL, ssh, sftp, support for multiple domains, several e-mail accounts, and a low price 🙂
