Extra Nipples

Sonofabitch it’s been too long since updating this. Here goes.

I did some more waterski tournaments, and skied ok in some of them, traveled way too far for one of them. My camera got stollen at the UCDavis tournament, that sucked. But on the bright side, I now have a very legitimate reason to hate California(ns)!

The UO Waterski Club is all approved and such, with partial funding even. Got probably 25 sign ups so far, should be a lot of fun once things get rolling, er boating, er… you get the idea.

Spent the afternoon Tuesday getting parts for my ski, my bike (including spokes– which came with spoke-nipples– which explains the title here), and being indecisive about a guitar tuner. I may need to head to GuitarWorld to check out the prices there. FWIW, I bought an electric guitar from my flatmate’s ex-girlfriend, and am taking guitar lessons this term, yay for fun.

Went to the Go Betty Go!/Voodoo Glow Skulls/Flogging Molly show last night. Go Betty Go! was excellent. I hadn’t head anything from them before the show, but I really dug their set. The only way I can think of to describe them is “all female punk band”.. and damn good at it. Who do voodoo I don’t. *shrug* The Voodoo Glow Skulls did put on a good set as well, but I’m just not a ska fan at all. Sorry guys. Then Flogging Molly came on… I’d seen them once before (at Warped Tour ’04 in Minneapolis). They have got to be one of my favorite bands to see live! But come on, Guinness in red plastic cups, wtf?!

I broke it.

OK, so I haven’t blogged since I sold my powerbook last week. I sold my powerbook last week! Not quite as much as I was hoping for, but I think it was quite a fair price for all involved. Problem being, this leaves me with a 266MHz beige g3 desktop as my main computer, that can only run up to Mac OS X 10.2 “Jaguar”.

Now, last night I got the brilliant idea to hack away at the Quicktime 7 installer to get it to work with 10.2, and got it to install just fine, but when I rebooted, it failed to boot into OS X again. So I spent nearly the entire day today trying to fix it. Process being: Backup (image the drive), repartition (decided to make a small adjustment), restore, delete a f-ton of stuff to make room, archive install 10.2 over the top, restore more data and clean up some small messes left around in various places, update, update, update, update, update, update, update, update, update, update, update, update, update, update, update, update, update, update, update, update, update, update, update, update, update, update, update, update (ran all the updates except the 10.2.8 combo because it wouldn’t succeed, so I ran 10.2.2, then the 10.2.6 combo, then the standalone 10.2.8 update), then there were still 10 more patches to run (mostly security updates and such).

And now it boots and runs fine, while being all up-to-date 🙂 But I still don’t have Quicktime 7 🙁 Ah well.

Mmmm waterskiing, last week I was making my 34mph pass almost consistantly, then this past Tuesday, I couldn’t do it again for some reason. I plan to attack the course again in the morning, goal still being 36mph and consistancy.

Link of the moment: Check out this short film shot with regular Canon EOS 20D SLR camera. It’s quite amazing in my opinion. Credit to Digg.com for enlightening me.

Picturegraphification

The other day I put up a photo gallery and several albums of photos. I’m still not sure how I want to incorporate it into the site, it could very well be it’s own section, and I could create an album of certain things for my portfolio. We’ll see, I’d be happy to hear your suggestions.

In other news, I think I’ve been making some progress getting the UO Waterski Club going. I’ve got a table reserved at the club sports open house, and am looking into a day to do an organizational meeting. Also it looks like in the next few weeks I’ll try to enter some tournaments.

As far as my skiing goes, I’m still struggling at 34mph. 32mph is cake though. I’d just really like to get myself up to 36mph so I can start cutting the rope down more. If you’re going to be entering competitions, it’s probably a good idea to be at a competitive level. 😉
